James is an education-technology executive based in New York, best known as the founding Chief Technology Officer of 2U, Inc., where he helped scale the company from a startup in 2008 into a global edtech leader. Before serving as Senior Strategic Advisor to 2U, he came to 2U from The Princeton Review, where he led the technology and product teams behind the company's assessment products, notably serving on the boards of AWS, Andela, and the NYC CTO Council, among others. Most recently, he served as interim Chief Innovation and Technology Officer at American Public Education, Inc., leading the organization's transition to a data-first, AI-enabled institution. He has also served as a strategic advisor to Udemy, Andela, and other high-growth education companies, and as a Venture Partner with Emerge Education since 2022.
